Whether Metal Detectors Should be Used in the Examination Places?

It is a never ending discussion that whether metal detectors should be used in the exam places. Some people think that applying metal detectors to make a body search is an offensive behavior which disrespects people. While others support the practice because using detectors can strengthen the fairness of examination with significant meaning such as middle school and college entrance examination, CET 4 and CET 6, TEM 4 and TEM 8, TOEFL and IELTS. As far as I am concerned, I agree with the latter. Although self-respect is of great importance, test impartiality is much more magnificent for students, the self-educated and people taking skill tests for future development.

If it is without metal detectors in exam, it will be easier for some people to cheat in tests in various ways such as sending messages, telephoning without notice, intercepting through hidden bugs, using pens with the latent cheating tool, placing electronic apparatuses in the inside of clothes. Under such circumstances, examination is not a good way to test out the real knowledge and skill level. Meanwhile, it is very unfair for those who take part in the examination with their own knowledge and simple test appliances only. As a result, with metal detectors, all the metallic cheating tools can be immediately detected out at the first beginning of the exams, which, in a great sense, guards the tests’ justice.

Moreover, some people would doubt that if examinations are no longer of great significance in self-development and choosing talents for companies, organizations and governments, it is not a necessity to apply metal detectors in the test places. In my opinion, the thinking should be avoided. Simply speaking, supposing exams lose their meaning for self-improvement and selecting talents, they still have far-reaching sense of teaching people to observe orders in which no cheating is an order we should follow. We can not be one hundred percent sure that no one will deceive in the exams for the praise from others who only consider score. And we are always educated by our parents and other elder people not to cheat in the exams as well as in life. So after taking the meaning of following legal orders into account, we may find that it is essential to use metal detectors in test situations so as to encourage all to be honest, righteous and self-dependent.

From what have been discussed above, we can come to a conclusion that metal detectors must be employed in all kinds of exam places to assure the tests’ impartiality, self-development of students and other people, the fulfillment for social order of no cheating, etc. And only with metal detecting products, the world will become much more reliable for all human beings in the globe.
